Somatic Experiencing

Living through intergenerational trauma, systemic stress, or the immigrant experience often leaves our bodies in a state of "high alert." This nervous system imbalance can lead to a buildup of unprocessed trauma, making it hard to focus, manage daily stress, or feel fully present with our loved ones.
Trauma and prolonged stress can disturb the delicate balance of the nervous system.
For many African Americans, Latinx individuals, and South Asian/Indian communities, this "heaviness" isn't just in the mind—it’s held in the body. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-based therapy designed to help you gently release this stored energy.
These somatic responses are your body’s way of talking to you about what may still be stuck in your body or unprocessed from a past event.
What to Expect in a Somatic Experiencing Session
Unlike traditional talk therapy, we focus on the mind-body connection. During our sessions, we will:
Slowly Revisit Stressors: We move at a pace that honors your safety, avoiding re-traumatization.
Identify Somatic Responses: We’ll explore the sensations, images, and emotions (affect) that arise, viewing them as your body’s natural wisdom.
Regulate Your Nervous System: By noticing how your body "talks" to you, we work together to process "stuck" energy and restore your natural flow.
Release Tension and Reclaim Your Balance
Whether you are dealing with racial battle fatigue, the pressures of acculturation, or past trauma, your body deserves to feel like a safe home. Through gentle somatic healing, we can transition your nervous system from a state of survival back to a state of thriving, allowing you to manage the ups and downs of life with resilience and presence.
